Where Do We Go From Here?

Psalm 119:105  Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.(ESV)

“Here” isn’t always where we thought we would be.

It may be the result of obedience, failure, loss, growth, exhaustion, or choices we would make differently if given another chance.  It may be a place we fought to reach or one we desperately want to leave.

Whatever brought us here, this is where the next step begins.

We’ve asked where we are.  We’ve examined what we’re doing here.  We’ve looked back at where we came from and considered where we’re going.

Now the questions must become movement.

We may still lack important information.  Parts of our present position may remain hidden from us.  The destination may be little more than a distant direction, and the full route may be impossible to see.

But a lamp doesn’t illuminate the entire journey.

It gives enough light for the next step.

We don’t need perfect awareness before we can move faithfully.  We need enough honesty to admit what we know, enough humility to question what we assume, and enough trust to obey what God has already made clear.

Sometimes the next step confirms the direction.

Sometimes it reveals that our map was wrong.

Sometimes it shows us that we’re not as lost as we felt.

God can redirect a person who’s moving, correct a person who’s listening, and guide a person who’s willing to surrender the destination.

Proverbs 16:9  The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.(ESV)

We can plan the course without pretending we control it.  We can take stock without demanding complete understanding.  We can move forward without knowing how many steps remain.

So where do we go from here?

We tell the truth about where we are.

We learn from where we’ve been.

We examine what’s driving us.

We face the direction before us.

Then we take the next faithful step.

And when that step becomes our new “here,” we ask again.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
