Psalm 127:2 Ā It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.(ESV)
There are seasons when the work is real, the deadlines are real, and the responsibility canāt simply be handed away. Faithfulness may require early mornings, late nights, difficult decisions, and steady endurance. But Scripture warns us about eating the bread of anxious toil. Thereās a kind of work that honors God, and thereās a kind of work that slowly teaches the heart to live on pressure.
Rest isnāt retreat when God is the One who commands it. Rest isnāt laziness when the servant has been faithful. Rest is an act of trust that reminds us weāre not sustained by our own motion. We can work hard without worshiping the work. We can carry responsibility without pretending to be limitless. The Lord gives sleep to His beloved, and receiving that gift may be one of the most faithful things we do.
