A Table for Others

Matthew 5:16  In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.(ESV)

Good work isn’t supposed to be hidden forever.  There’s a time for quiet faithfulness, and there’s a time for that faithfulness to become visible enough that others can be helped by it.  Not so we can be praised.  Not so we can build a name for ourselves.  The purpose is that the work would point beyond us to the One who gave the strength, opened the door, provided the wisdom, and carried us when we had nothing left.

That’s where stewardship becomes more than personal obedience.  It becomes a table.  The lessons God teaches us, the gifts He places in our hands, the stories He allows us to carry, and the work He gives us strength to finish can become something that feeds someone else.  What began in private can become useful in public.  What began as survival can become service.

That’s part of why House of the Broken Bread now exists.  It began with the Practical Christianity series, but it was never meant to end there.  The company wasn’t created merely to place my own books on a shelf.  The larger purpose is to help meaningful books find readers, to help writers steward what’s been placed in their hands, and to build a publishing house where thoughtful work is handled with care.

The website is now open: https://www.houseofthebrokenbread.com.

There’s still much to build, but the table has been set.  My prayer is that what God has restored, refined, and placed in my hands will become bread for others.

Had I only started a life journal many years ago or writing about everything I learned from my historical elderly community ! They would both carry within many stories and experiences. Some educational and some unbelievable. I always loved writing, talking and asking way too many questions.

Thank you for your contribution that will live on forever, we know it will always reach wherever God sends it.
        Good work faithful steward!

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
