The Mercy of Letting Go

Exodus 2:3  When she could hide him no longer, she took for him a basket made of bulrushes and daubed it with bitumen and pitch.  She put the child in it and placed it among the reeds by the river bank.(ESV)

Moses wasn’t placed in the basket because he was unwanted.  He was placed there because he was loved.  His mother couldn’t keep him safely in her arms, so she released him into the river and trusted God with what she could no longer protect.  Not every separation is rejection.  Sometimes love has to let go, and sometimes God begins a work of deliverance through a surrender that breaks the heart before it reveals the purpose.

“This act, driven by love, illustrates that not all separations signify rejection. Sometimes, love requires letting go, paving the way for God’s deliverance through painful yet purposeful surrender.”

As a person given up for adoption at three years old, this message is one I can 100% confirm. Yah’s plans are always greater than our own. We cannot live our lives second-guessing every choice made by others or even by our own selves. Letting go is one of the hardest choices a person can make because it states emphatically…I am not in control. We consciously choose to trust the creator of the universe with the outcome.

I am grateful that the choice was adoption and not abortion or I would not be here writing this message, would not have four children and ten grandchildren. I wouldn’t have overcome all that I have in my life and would not have the testimony I have today. Definitely not a picture perfect life, but is that truly a life worthy to live or just one in the imaginations of children.

Sincerely grateful for the one who chose to let go…

Brother, I think this week might have been written for you. Every message this week is related. I think that when you see the line through them all that you’ll appreciate it.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
