The Next Right Thing

Galatians 6:9  And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.(ESV)

Doing the right thing can become tiring when the results are slow.

It’s easier to be faithful when we can see progress.  It’s easier to keep serving, praying, working, forgiving, giving, and obeying when something visible seems to be happening.

But many of the most important things God grows in us happen slowly.

That’s where weariness becomes dangerous.

Weariness doesn’t always make us want to rebel.  Sometimes it simply makes us want to stop caring.  We still know what’s right, but we no longer feel the strength to keep doing it.

That is why Paul’s words matter.  “Do not grow weary.”

Not because the work is easy.  Not because the fruit is instant.  Not because obedience always feels rewarding in the moment.

But because God sees what’s being planted, even when we can’t yet see what’s growing.

The small act of obedience still matters.  The quiet faithfulness still matters.  The unseen work still matters.

We may not reap today.

We may not even see the first signs of growth yet.

But we aren’t called to control the harvest.

We’re called not to give up.

This is such a great message and one extremely difficult to achieve in a society that constantly sends the message… If it’s real, you’ll see the result. Sometimes being faithful is continuing on when there are no visible results as called out in the scripture below.

Iḇ`rim (Hebrews) 11:1 And belief is the substance of what is expected, the proof of what is not seen.

Faith is seen in consistent actions even when there are no results seen, not because the work is not important, or that our efforts are futile, but because the state of our hearts walking in obedience of the master is the most important, even if we don’t see the results in this lifetime.

That’s absolutely true. Faithfulness is often continuing when the harvest is hidden.

The danger we always have to be mindful of is that even good actions can become habits performed with no thought. The habit itself isn’t the problem. Faithful habits can be a gift. The problem comes when the habit takes over and we forget why we’re doing it.

We can keep the motion and lose the worship. We can keep serving, praying, giving, forgiving, and obeying, while slowly forgetting that all of it is meant to point us back to Him. Then we also fail to teach others who observe those actions the reason behind them.

I think this is part of the reason we’re called to slow down sometimes. Not to stop obeying, but to remember the why behind the obedience. Am I still doing this unto the Lord? Am I still trusting Him with the unseen fruit? Am I still walking in obedience to the Master, or has the routine started replacing the relationship?

Faith isn’t proven only by visible results. It’s also proven by obedience when the results are hidden. But that obedience still has to stay connected to the One we’re obeying.

So yes, keep planting. Keep walking. Keep doing good. But also keep remembering why. The harvest belongs to God, but the heart behind the planting still matters.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
