Silence is Golden

Floatie:  The Wisdom of Restraint

Proverbs 17:27–28  (27)Whoever restrains his words has knowledge, and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding.  (28)Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.(ESV)

Silence doesn’t always mean ignorance.  Sometimes, it’s the mark of those who have nothing left to prove.  A fool fights to be heard; the wise wait until speaking brings value.

✒️ Forge:  When Words Become Noise

The more words we use, the easier it becomes to lose truth in the noise.  In the age of constant opinions and instant reactions, restraint has become rebellion.  Wisdom is not proven by the quantity of what we say but by the quality of what we withhold.  Jesus Himself remained silent before Pilate—not out of fear, but authority.  He refused to dignify accusations that didn’t deserve an answer.

Compare that with Job’s friends.  Their speeches were long and confident—but wrong.  God corrected them, not Job’s pain.  Silence, when rooted in discernment, keeps us aligned with heaven rather than drawn into human argument.

⚒️ Anvil:  The Discipline of Holding the Tongue

Silence isn’t passive; it’s training the tongue to wait until the heart has caught up to the Spirit.  The discipline of silence teaches humility—it breaks the reflex to defend ourselves, justify our pride, or react from emotion.

James 1:19  Know this, my beloved brothers:  let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;(ESV)

Ecclesiastes 3:7  a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;(ESV)

The challenge:  don’t respond just because you can.  Respond when you should.

🔥 Ember:  The Strength in Stillness

True strength isn’t loud.  It’s measured, patient, and grounded.  The loudest person in the room is rarely the one in control.  God speaks most clearly in whispers because only those who quiet their souls can hear Him.

If we must speak, let it be after silence—so our words carry weight, not waste.

🌿 Covenant Triumph:  Words Worth Speaking

When we learn the art of silence, our words become sanctified.  They stop serving ego and start serving purpose.  The tongue that waits for wisdom becomes a vessel of healing, not harm.  And the world, deafened by endless noise, begins to hear again through the quiet strength of the wise.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
