Another Church Scandal

Floatie:  The Hook That Pulls You In

Romans 5:8  but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.(ESV)

When you read “Another Church Scandal,” what came to mind?  A pastor caught in sin.  A denomination covering abuse.  Money stolen.  Lives ruined.  We’ve seen it before.  We expect it again.  The church has never been short on shame.

But what if I told you the real scandal isn’t theirs—it’s ours?

✒️ Forge:  The Word That Cuts

1 Corinthians 1:27–29  (27)But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; (28)God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, (29)so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.(ESV)

The true scandal is not that men and women fall.  It’s that God calls us at all.  The cross is the most shocking headline in history:  the sinless Son of God crushed so the guilty could be forgiven.  The spotless One made sin, so the stained could be made clean (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Grace is not polite.  Grace is not tame.  Grace is scandalous.

⚒️ Anvil:  Where It Lands

The scandals of the church make us clench our fists in anger, and maybe we should.  Sin in God’s house must be judged.  But if we only look outward, we miss the point.  My sin, your sin, our sin—it’s all a scandal.

The headlines of heaven should read:

  • Another liar redeemed.
  • Another addict restored.
  • Another hypocrite forgiven.

The scandal of the church is not the failures of men—it’s the mercy of God.

🔥 Ember:  The Fire That Spreads

You may have clicked expecting dirt.  You probably came bracing for gossip.  Instead you found the mirror.  And in that mirror stands the biggest scandal of all:  you’re still breathing grace you never deserved.

Let that sink in.  The same God who sees the corruption in the pulpit sees the corruption in your heart—and still calls you His.  That’s not a cover-up.  That’s a cross.

🌿 Covenant Triumph:  From Scandal to Glory

Ephesians 2:4–5  (4)But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, (5)even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—(ESV)

The scandal isn’t that the church has fallen.  The scandal is that the Church still stands—because Christ Himself is holding it up.  And if He hasn’t let go yet, He’s not about to start now.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
