Blinded to See

Floatie:  Blinded by the Light

Acts 9:1–9  (1)But Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest (2)and asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.  (3)Now as he went on his way, he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven shone around him.  (4)And falling to the ground he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?”  (5)And he said, “Who are you, Lord?”  And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.  (6)But rise and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do.”  (7)The men who were traveling with him stood speechless, hearing the voice but seeing no one.  (8)Saul rose from the ground, and although his eyes were opened, he saw nothing.  So they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus.  (9)And for three days he was without sight, and neither ate nor drank.(ESV)

✒️ Forge:  Encounter With the Living Christ

Saul thought he was defending God by crushing the Church.  Instead, he collided with the risen Christ.  The persecutor discovered that to strike the Church is to strike Christ Himself:  “Why are you persecuting me?”

This encounter echoes other theophanies:

  • Moses before the burning bush (Exodus 3:4–6).
  • Isaiah undone by God’s glory in the temple (Isaiah 6:1–5).
  • Ezekiel falling facedown at the vision of God’s throne (Ezekiel 1:28).

The light blinded Saul, not as punishment but as preparation.  He had to lose sight in order to truly see.

⚒️ Anvil:  The Challenge of Confrontation

Few of us experience Damascus-road visions, but all of us must face the question:  “Who are you, Lord?”  When confronted with Jesus, neutrality is impossible.  He is either persecuted or proclaimed.

The challenge is allowing Christ to unmake us before He remakes us.  Like clay in the potter’s hand (Jeremiah 18:6), Saul had to be shattered before he could be reshaped into Paul, the apostle.

🔥 Ember:  A Word for Today

Sometimes God blinds us to strip away our illusions of control.  The three days of darkness forced Saul to stop, to hunger, to wait.  In our own seasons of blindness—when we can’t see the way forward—God may be preparing us to truly see His way.

🌿 Covenant Triumph:  From Enemy to Instrument

The story doesn’t end in blindness but in commissioning.  The one who sought to bind believers was himself bound by grace.  The Lord would soon call him His “chosen instrument” (Acts 9:15).  This is the triumph of the covenant:  enemies turned to witnesses, persecutors transformed into apostles, all by the light of Christ.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
