No Other Name

Floatie:  The Only Name

Acts 4:8–12  (8)Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, (9)if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, (10)let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well.  (11)This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.  (12)And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”(ESV)

✒️ Forge:  Christ the Cornerstone

Peter’s defense is clear:  the healing was not by his power but by the risen Christ.  He quotes Psalm 118:22(ESV):  “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.”

This echoes Jesus’ own words (Matthew 21:42) and ties the gospel directly to the Scriptures the council claimed to defend.  The rejected stone had become the foundation.  The crucified Christ had become the only Savior.

Peter declares exclusivity: no other name.  This was not arrogance—it was alignment with truth:

  • “I, I am the LORD, and besides me there is no savior” (Isaiah 43:11)(ESV).
  • “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6)(ESV).

⚒️ Anvil:  The Challenge of Exclusivity

The gospel is offensive precisely because it excludes every other way.  The council was fine with religion, fine with healing, even fine with charity—but not fine with Jesus as the only name.

The same is true today.  Pluralism embraces “a” way, but resists the Way.  The challenge for us is whether we will soften the message to avoid offense or declare with Peter:  salvation is found in no one else.

🔥 Ember:  A Word for Today

Peter was uneducated, ordinary by the world’s standards, but he spoke with Spirit-filled boldness.  The authority was not in him, but in the name he bore witness to.  The Spirit still equips ordinary people with extraordinary boldness when the name of Jesus is lifted high.

🌿 Covenant Triumph:  The Name Given

The name that heals also saves.  The cornerstone once rejected has become the foundation of a new house of living stones (1 Peter 2:4–5).  The same Christ who raised a crippled man to walk raises sinners to life.  No other name.  No other hope.  No other foundation.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
