⚓ Floatie: Stop Chasing Somebody Else’s Story
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.(ESV)
God didn’t send you to Pharaoh. He didn’t send you to Nineveh. He didn’t call you to fight Goliath. He didn’t tell you to marry a prostitute, sell everything, or build an ark. Those were their assignments. Stop trying to resurrect somebody else’s ghost. Stop chasing crowns not meant for your head.
✒️ Forge: Half the Story Is a Lie
Hebrews 11:32-34 (32)And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets— (33)who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, (34)quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.(ESV)
From pulpits today you’ll hear: “You can be like David! You can be like Noah! You can be like Moses!” But they never tell you the cost.
- David’s crown was paid for in caves and betrayal.
- Moses’ calling cost him forty years of exile and the Promised Land itself.
- Noah’s obedience cost him a century of ridicule before the first drop of rain.
Handing people the highlight reel without the blood price is not encouragement—it’s deception. It’s spiritual bait-and-switch. It sells the glory and hides the weight.
⚒️ Anvil: You Can’t Afford Another Man’s Cup
Matthew 20:22 Jesus answered, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?” They said to him, “We are able.”(ESV)
The disciples thought they could walk His path. Jesus rebuked them: “You don’t know what you’re asking.” His cup wasn’t theirs to drink. His road wasn’t theirs to walk. Even His closest followers couldn’t afford His assignment.
John 21:22 Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!”(ESV)
Two rebukes, same fire: “You can’t afford My cup. You don’t get to copy John’s call. What is that to you? You follow Me!”
That’s the anvil blow. Your mission isn’t theirs. Your obedience isn’t theirs. Copy another man’s crown, and you’ll collapse under the weight of borrowed glory.
🔥 Ember: Idolatry in Disguise
Galatians 1:10 For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.(ESV)
Chasing borrowed glory isn’t faith—it’s idolatry in disguise. It bows to comparison. It worships envy. It baptizes ambition and calls it obedience. And idolatry, no matter how pretty its pulpit or polished its sermon, still damns.
🌿 Covenant Triumph: Written in Your Blood
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.(ESV)
Your assignment is already written. Not Pharaoh’s. Not Nineveh’s. Not David’s. Not Noah’s. Yours.
The God who wrote your DNA wrote the story that goes with it. To hunger for another’s crown is to trade eternal reward for counterfeit gold. And pastors who peddle that lie for personal profit won’t have a plea strong enough to silence the Shepherd’s wrath and will find their crowns turned to ash in the fire of His coming (Jeremiah 23:1-2, Ezekiel 34:2-4; 10).
