Counterfeit Calm

Floatie:  When Peace Is a Lie

Jeremiah 6:14  They have healed the wound of my people lightly, saying, ‘Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace.(ESV)

✒️ Forge:  Whitewashed Walls and Silenced Warnings

False peace is one of the most dangerous lies the Church can tell itself.  It’s not just a mistake—it’s a spiritual betrayal.  Throughout Scripture, especially in the prophets, God rebukes leaders who manufacture calm while ignoring rebellion, minimizing sin, and deflecting truth.

Ezekiel 13:10–12  (10)Precisely because they have misled my people, saying, ‘Peace,’ when there is no peace, and because, when the people build a wall, these prophets smear it with whitewash, (11)say to those who smear it with whitewash that it shall fall!  There will be a deluge of rain, and you, O great hailstones, will fall, and a stormy wind break out.  (12)And when the wall falls, will it not be said to you, ‘Where is the coating with which you smeared it?’(ESV)

Religious leaders may dress up rebellion with soft language.  They may silence dissent in the name of unity.  But the storm will still come.

God does not honor peace treaties with sin.

⚒️ Anvil:  When the Church Paints Over Cracks

Look around.  You’ll find churches preaching comfort while avoiding confrontation.  You’ll find Christians calling for “unity” when what they mean is silence.  You’ll see entire ministries built on affirmation without repentance.

And yet—

  • Abuse goes unaddressed.
  • Injustice is sidestepped.
  • Idolatry is baptized as strategy.

This is not peace.  It’s denial wrapped in devotion.

Lamentations 2:14  Your prophets have seen for you false and deceptive visions; they have not exposed your iniquity to restore your fortunes, but have seen for you oracles that are false and misleading.(ESV)

Church, you don’t get to skip repentance.  You don’t get to avoid correction and call it “love.”  If your peace isn’t built on truth, then it’s not peace.  It’s poison.

🔥 Ember:  I Once Mistook Silence for Security

I used to think a quiet church was a healthy one.  No arguing.  No conflict.  Everyone smiling.

We were told to follow the Matthew 18 model, to keep disagreements behind closed doors—so that we didn’t ‘damage someone’s faith’.  But that wasn’t about protection.  It was about control.  It wasn’t about peace.  It was about silence.

But over time, I learned the hard truth:  peace without truth is just anesthesia before surgery that never comes.
I’ve seen people crumble under sin they were told to ignore.  I’ve watched leaders lie to keep people calm, while wolves devoured the flock.

Real peace doesn’t avoid wounds.  It confronts them, cleans them, and lets God heal them.

🌿 Covenant Triumph:  Tear Down the Wall, Rebuild on the Rock

Isaiah 28:17  And I will make justice the line, and righteousness the plumb line; and hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and waters will overwhelm the shelter.(ESV)

God is not interested in painting walls.  He rebuilds from the foundation.
That means truth must be the beginning.  Repentance must be the blueprint.
Then peace—real peace—can come.  Because true peace doesn’t mean silence.
It means restoration.  It means standing clean before the throne—not whitewashed, but made new.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
