Delighting in the Pause

Floatie:  The Sabbath as Gift, Not Guilt

Isaiah 58:13–14  (13)If you turn back your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on my holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight and the holy day of the Lord honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways, or seeking your own pleasure, or talking idly; (14)then you shall take delight in the Lord, and I will make you ride on the heights of the earth; I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.(ESV)

✒️ Forge:  The Rhythm of Rest That Reconnects You

The Sabbath was never meant to be a restriction.  It was meant to be a rhythm—a sacred pause in a world that never stops.

From the beginning, God established rest not because He needed it, but because we would.  Genesis 2:2–3 tells us He blessed the seventh day and made it holy—not for His sake, but for ours.

Yet by the time of Jesus, the Sabbath had been turned into a burden.  Religious leaders had layered manmade rules on top of a divine gift.
What was meant to restore had become a ritual.
What was meant to invite had become a threat.

Mark 2:27  And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.”(ESV)

God’s design wasn’t about sitting still in fear of rule-breaking.  It was about calling the day a delight, an invitation into deeper communion.

The Sabbath is not just a command—it is a window into Eden.  A reset.  A holy reset that says, “God is enough, and I don’t need to earn my worth today.”

⚒️ Anvil:  Reclaiming Rest in a Culture of Grind

If you can’t stop working, you’re not free.  If you can’t enjoy resting, you’re not trusting.

The modern world doesn’t value rest—it celebrates exhaustion.  You’re praised for how much you hustle, not how well you pause.  But Sabbath is a defiant act of faith.
It says:

  • “God will take care of me while I rest.”
  • “My worth is not in my output.”
  • “The world doesn’t need me to spin for it to keep turning.”

Hebrews 4:9–10  (9)So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, (10)for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.(ESV)

Sabbath isn’t about legalism—it’s about alignment.  It’s not about laying on the couch and doing nothing.  It’s about doing what restores your soul and honors God at the same time.

So ask yourself:

  • When was the last time you called the Sabbath a delight?
  • Have you made rest part of your worship—or just another checkbox on the schedule?

🔥 Ember:  I Forgot How to Rest Until It Broke Me

There was a time I didn’t rest—because I thought I couldn’t.  Too much to do.  Too much to fix.  Too many people depending on me.
So I pressed on… until I broke.

And in the silence that followed the collapse, I heard the whisper:  “If you won’t stop yourself, I will stop you.  And even then, I’ll meet you in the stillness.”

If I’m being completely honest, this has happened many times.  Many times I either broke or was forced to stop.

Now I guard Sabbath like treasure.  I’ve learned that silence can heal.  That joy can return when I stop chasing it.  That peace has a pattern—and it starts by letting go.

🌿 Covenant Triumph:  Rest Isn’t Weakness—It’s Worship

Exodus 31:13  “You are to speak to the people of Israel and say, ‘Above all you shall keep my Sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I, the Lord, sanctify you.(ESV)

Sabbath isn’t just about rest.  It’s about remembrance.
It reminds you who sanctifies you.  Who sustains you.  Who leads you.

If you’re tired, burned out, overwhelmed—it’s not just a scheduling problem.  It’s a trust issue.
Sabbath says:  “He is God.  I am not.”

So step back.  Breathe deep.  Worship quietly.  And call it delight.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
