⚓ Floatie: Who Is The Tempter
James 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.(ESV)
✒️ Forge: God Will Test You, But Never Try to Make You Fail
It’s a subtle but vital distinction: God tests. Satan tempts.
Both can occur in the same circumstance—but their intentions are radically different.
- A test reveals your faith, purifies your motives, strengthens your character, and gives opportunity for growth.
- A temptation seeks your downfall. It lures, seduces, entices—and always carries destruction beneath the bait.
Genesis 22:1 After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”(ESV)
God tested Abraham to draw out obedience, not to push him toward failure. He already knew the outcome—but Abraham didn’t. The test wasn’t for God’s information. It was for Abraham’s transformation.
Now contrast that with Genesis 3: The serpent tempts Eve not to prove her trust in God—but to undermine it. He twists God’s words, implants doubt, and offers the lie of elevation.
That’s the difference. God refines.
Satan deceives.
Same fire. Different goal.
⚒️ Anvil: How to Tell What You’re Facing
Here’s the hard truth: Most people don’t recognize the difference between a test and a temptation until they’ve already responded.
So here’s a diagnostic filter:
- Is this drawing me closer to obedience, or justifying compromise?
- Is it exposing sin for repentance, or excusing sin for pleasure?
- Does it end in worship, or in regret?
1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.(ESV)
When God tests, He provides grace.
When Satan tempts, he offers short-term relief with long-term damage.
God’s tests are always accompanied by His presence.
The enemy’s traps come wrapped in urgency, isolation, and secrecy.
🔥 Ember: The Trap I Thought Was a Test
I’ve blamed God for temptations He never sent. I’ve asked why He allowed a door to open—when I’m the one who turned the handle.
But I’ve also walked through tests that broke me—only to find, on the other side, that I was stronger, cleaner, freer.
Tests reveal the real you. Temptations try to create a false you.
The enemy wants you to believe God is cruel. That He sets you up to fail.
But the cross proves otherwise. He doesn’t test you to punish you.
He tests you to transform you.
🌿 Covenant Triumph: The Tester Is Also the Deliverer
Deuteronomy 8:2 And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.(ESV)
God doesn’t tempt. He tests—and only those He calls His.
The wilderness wasn’t designed to destroy Israel. It was where they learned who they were.
The cross wasn’t designed to crush Jesus. It was where the Kingdom was revealed.
The next time you feel pressure, ask: Is this a test meant to grow me? Or a trap meant to destroy me?
And then ask the Spirit for discernment. He knows the source.
Whatever the fire, He is faithful. He still walks with you in the test. He still provides the way out in the temptation.
And He still calls you son or daughter through both.
