The Wild Branch

Floatie:  God’s Covenant Promises to the Gentiles

Romans 11:17  But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree,(ESV)

✒️ Forge:  Not Plan B, But Part of the Plan

Gentiles were never an afterthought.  They weren’t included by accident or because Israel “failed.”  The inclusion of the nations has always been a part of God’s redemptive plan.

From the moment of Abraham’s covenant, God declared,  Genesis 12:3  …and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.(ESV)

God’s covenant with Israel was never meant to be exclusive, but foundational.  Through Israel would come the Law, the Prophets, and ultimately the Messiah—so that all nations could be drawn to Him.

Isaiah 49:6  he says:  “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel; I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”(ESV)

The Gentiles were part of the inheritance from the beginning—but not as independent heirs.  We are grafted into the root, not alongside it.

The early Church wrestled with this truth.  Peter’s encounter with Cornelius (Acts 10), the Jerusalem Council (Acts 15), and Paul’s letters all emphasize this truth:  We do not replace Israel.  We are joined to her root.

⚒️ Anvil:  Grafted Doesn’t Mean Independent

Too many modern Gentile believers act as if God divorced Israel and married the Church.  That is false doctrine and a dangerous arrogance.

Romans 11:18–20  (18)do not be arrogant toward the branches.  If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you.  (19)Then you will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.”  (20)That is true.  They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith.  So do not become proud, but fear.(ESV)

God has not abandoned Israel.  His promises to her remain.  Our inclusion is merciful, not entitled.

We share in the nourishing root, but we must never forget whose tree it is.  Every Gentile believer is a living witness of God’s mercy and His original design to bless all nations through Abraham’s seed—Christ.

If you walk in pride, assuming that you have somehow become God’s favorite while Israel is cast off, you reveal that you are feeding off your own pride, not the root of the covenant.

🔥 Ember:  A Branch I Didn’t Deserve

I wasn’t born into covenant.  I didn’t inherit Torah, tradition, or temple.  I was a wild branch—unrooted, untamed, unworthy.

And yet… mercy found me.
Grace grafted me in.
And now I stand in something far older, deeper, and holier than anything I could build on my own.

I’ve walked through churches that thought the story started in Matthew.  I’ve read theology that erased God’s covenant people in favor of convenience.  But the more I read Scripture in context, the more I see—I am here because God made a promise…and kept it.

🌿 Covenant Triumph:  The Root Still Lives

Isaiah 56:6–7  (6)“And the foreigners who join themselves to the Lord, to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord, and to be his servants, everyone who keeps the Sabbath and does not profane it, and holds fast my covenant—(7)these I will bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer; their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.”(ESV)

God’s promises didn’t die in the Old Testament.  They didn’t change when Jesus rose.  They were fulfilled in Him, and now they’re offered to anyone—Jew or Gentile—who comes in by faith.

The covenant was never meant to be a wall.  It was meant to be a root system—deep, ancient, nourishing, alive.

You were grafted in.
Stay humble.
Stay rooted.
And don’t sever yourself from the story that made your salvation possible.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
