Breaking the Cycle

John 8:36  So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.(ESV)

Floatie:  Forged, Not Farmed
You were never meant to be harvested.  You were meant to be forged.

When Jesus sets you free, He doesn’t just free you from sin.  He frees you from systems—man-made cycles of dependence that call themselves church, ministry, or care.  He breaks every yoke, not just the ones we notice.

If the message you’re hearing week after week leaves you just convicted enough to feel guilty, but never empowered enough to change, you’re not being fed—you’re being processed.

And Christ didn’t die to turn you into spiritual processed food.

✒️ Forge:  Discipleship Is Measured by Multiplication
Real freedom isn’t just about escape.  It’s about impact.

Jesus didn’t just save Peter from shame—He sent him to feed the sheep.  He didn’t just deliver the demoniac from Legion—He sent him back to testify to his people.  He didn’t just rescue Paul—He turned him into a weapon.

The sign of true deliverance isn’t that you feel better.  It’s that you become dangerous.

2 Timothy 2:2  and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.(ESV)

If your church has no plan to train the saved into trainers…it’s not following Jesus.

So break the cycle:

  • Stop being a customer.
  • Start being a contender.
  • Stop looking for inspiration.
  • Start looking for instruction.

The Kingdom doesn’t need more fans.  It needs faithful fighters.

⚒️ Anvil:  Check the Fruit
If you’re not sure whether you’re stuck in a system of spiritual dependence, hold it up to the Word:

  • Are you growing in your ability to study Scripture on your own?
  • Have you ever discipled someone personally?
  • Can you recognize false doctrine without needing a pastor to call it out?
  • Are you equipped to teach, or just encouraged to attend?

Hebrews 5:14  But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.(ESV)

Church should feel like a gym, not a spa.  You should leave sore from use, not soothed into complacency.

So many believers have no spiritual stamina because their church has never given them weight to carry.  But you don’t grow in safety.  You grow under pressure.

🔥 Ember:  The Fire That Trains
Freedom from dependence doesn’t mean rebellion.  It means readiness.

You still need community.  You still need teachers.  But you don’t need a babysitter with a microphone and a fog machine.  You need the fire of the Holy Spirit, the sword of the Word, and the discipline to follow Jesus without being spoon-fed every Sunday.

There’s a reason God didn’t make weekly sermons part of the New Covenant.  He made Spirit-filled believers the plan.

Galatians 5:1  For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.(ESV)

You’re not just free from.  You’re free for.  For purpose.  For power.  For impact.

🌿 Covenant Triumph:  Sent with Scars, Not Chains
When God heals you from a system of spiritual codependence, He won’t leave you without a mission.

He sends you back—with scars, yes.  But also with fire.  You become a threat to the systems that once fed on you.  You become the answer to someone else’s bondage.

Revelation 12:11  And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.(ESV)

You don’t need perfect credentials to start mentoring.  You need scars.  Scars that prove you’ve been to battle—and survived.

So don’t just escape the system.  Expose it.  Teach others to walk free.  Show what real freedom looks like.

Because once you’ve been forged in the fire of truth, no counterfeit system will ever own you again.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
