Forged by the Word, Part 8:  The Scroll That Eats You

Ezekiel 3:1–3  (1)And he said to me, “Son of man, eat whatever you find here.  Eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.”  (2)So I opened my mouth, and he gave me this scroll to eat.  (3)And he said to me, “Son of man, feed your belly with this scroll that I give you and fill your stomach with it.”  Then I ate it, and it was in my mouth as sweet as honey.(ESV)

Floatie:  Eat What You Expect to Carry
Scripture is not just to be read.  It’s to be eaten.  Taken in.  Digested.  Made part of you.  But like any true nourishment, it doesn’t just taste sweet—it transforms, and sometimes, it turns bitter as it begins its deeper work.

✒️ Forge:  Prophets Don’t Parrot
Both Ezekiel (chapter 3) and John (Revelation 10) are told to eat the scroll.  This isn’t poetic flair—it’s prophetic obedience.  They aren’t called to recite the Word, but to become one with it.

  • The scroll is sweet because it is divine truth.
  • It becomes bitter because it brings judgment, burden, and accountability.

You cannot speak truth you have not digested.  You cannot carry the Word if it hasn’t first carried you through fire.

⚒️ Anvil:  Ingest Before You Impart
Wrestle with these questions:

  • Am I consuming Scripture or just sampling it?
  • Has the Word become part of my inner life—or is it still external?
  • Do I speak from conviction, or just from information?

When the scroll is eaten, it changes you.  When it’s only observed, it does not.  You can’t fake digestion.

🔥 Ember:  The Scroll That Wrecked Me
There are truths I’ve tried to speak that had no weight—because I hadn’t swallowed them yet.  When I did, they wrecked me.  And only then could they start reaching others.

The scroll that eats you will break your pride.  It will crush your image.  And it will build something better from what’s left.

🌿 Covenant Triumph:  Union, Not Memorization
God doesn’t want parrots—He wants prophets.  People who speak not from memory but from union.  From having eaten the Word and wept through it.

Read it.  Eat it.  Let it be sweet.  Let it be bitter.  And let it become your message—not just your memory.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
