Exodus 24:17 Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel.(ESV)
⚓ Floatie: Not Ink, but Flame
When God writes, mountains shake. His words are not ornamental—they’re elemental. They burn, they brand, and they build. The Word isn’t ink on a page. It’s fire in the bones.
✒️ Forge: His Words Were Always Fire
God’s written Word has always been surrounded by fire:
- At Sinai, He descended in flame to deliver the commandments (Exodus 19–24).
- His voice burned into stone tablets—not ink, but engraving by divine hand (Exodus 31:18).
- In Jeremiah 20:9, the prophet describes the Word as a fire shut up in his bones.
- In Revelation 1:14–16, Jesus appears with eyes like fire and a voice like many waters—His words like a sword.
Fire purifies, illuminates, and consumes. The Word does all three. When God writes, it’s not for commentary—it’s for covenant.
⚒️ Anvil: The Fire Should Still Burn
Ask yourself:
- Do I treat Scripture as holy or just helpful?
- Has the Word ever burned in me—not just informed, but ignited?
- Do I let it reshape me, or do I keep it safely at a distance?
If the Word hasn’t shaken you, it probably hasn’t touched you. Fire changes everything it contacts. And the Word, rightly received, should be no different.
🔥 Ember: Let It Brand You
There are verses that landed in my heart like flame. Not comfort—conviction. Not reassurance—reconstruction.
The most dangerous thing we can do is domesticate the divine voice. God is not safe. His Word is not tame. But it is good.
Let it burn. Let it brand. Let it speak from the mountain to the marrow.
🌿 Covenant Triumph: We Are People of the Fire
The same fire that once hovered above Sinai now dwells within the believer. Pentecost came not with wind alone, but with tongues of flame (Acts 2).
We are people of the fire—formed by a Word that burns without being consumed.
Read it not as advice—but as holy flame.
