From Dust to Divinity: Part 9

The Nature of Eternal Return

Ecclesiastes 12:7
and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.(ESV)

Everything that begins must come to an end. Everything that is sent out must either return—or be cast away.

Every soul comes from God. And every soul will return to Him. But not all returns are the same.

Scriptural Foundation

Hebrews 9:27
And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment(ESV)

Matthew 25:31-32, 46
(31)“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. (32)Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
(46)And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.(ESV)

Revelation 20:12-13
(12)And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. (13)And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done.(ESV)

Scripture makes it clear that every soul will stand before God. There is no escaping that moment. But the outcome of that return depends not on existence—but on relationship.

Theological Reflection

There are only two categories that matter in eternity:

  • Those united with Christ by faith.
  • Those separated from God by rejection.

The soul, being eternal and God-breathed, cannot cease to exist. It must return—but it will either be:

  • Rejoined with the Source in union,
  • Or cut off in isolation, as a fragment incompatible with divine nature.

John 15:6
If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.(ESV)

2 Thessalonians 1:9
They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might(ESV)

Judgment is not an arbitrary sentence. It is the moment where the nature of a soul is revealed.

Those joined to Christ are recognized as part of His body. Those who chose separation are confirmed in that choice—forever.

Theoretical Expansion

If each soul is a finite vessel—a fragment of divine essence shaped by experience—
then the return is the moment when that vessel is evaluated:

  • Does it reflect the Source?
  • Can it be reunited without contradiction?
  • Has it been made clean through Christ?

Those that have chosen to reflect God—through grace—are brought home. Not to become gods, but to be made one with Christ.

Those who refuse this return cannot be absorbed into divine unity. Not because God lacks love—but because He cannot change, and they would not.

The soul is eternal. So its separation is not temporary. It is the eternal consequence of refusing the one thing that makes union possible: Christ.

This is not annihilation. It is isolation—eternal existence apart from the Source.

Like a severed branch. Like a forgotten cell. Like light exiled to shadow.

Closing Thought for This Post

You will return. You were made to.

But the shape of that return—whether reunion or rejection—will be determined by what you chose to reflect in the veil of time.

You were not created to be discarded. You were created to be received.

And in Christ, you will be.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
