Know When To Stand

Some of us are afraid to sit at the table made for us because we don’t know everyone else at the table, while others of us are sitting at tables we were sent to flip.

Psalm 23:5  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.(ESV)

Luke 14:10-11  (10)But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your host comes he may say to you, “Friend, move up higher.”  Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at table with you.  (11)For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.(ESV)

2 Timothy 1:7  for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.(ESV)

Joshua 1:9  Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous.  Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.(ESV)

God prepares a table for us, even in the presence of opposition.  He has a place for us, even in challenging or unfamiliar settings.  We have to trust His provision rather than our own fears.  Don’t let fear keep you from being where God calls you.  Be humble when you find your table and you’ll probably be surprised at how far up the table you move.

On the other hand, just because we see a table before us doesn’t mean that we are meant to sit down.  If we find ourselves at a table that promotes unrighteousness, we may be there to challenge it.

Ephesians 5:11  Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.(ESV)

Matthew 14:12-13  (12)And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons.  (13)He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.”(ESV)

Jeremiah 1:10  Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.  See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.(ESV)

Wisdom is knowing when we are called to sit in peace or to stand in righteous disruption.

Proverbs 3:5-6  (5)Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.  (6)In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.(ESV)

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
