Ephesians 6:10 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.(ESV)
I absolutely love these verses. I love to study each piece of the armor—belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of the gospel of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit. Each one reveals a bit of depth of God’s provision.
When you become a follower of Christ, you are enlisted as a soldier in His army. Any soldier can tell you about the importance of their gear—it protects their lives, and they often speak fondly of certain pieces. But something many people miss is that none of the gear they are given actually belongs to them. The same is true for the armor of God. It isn’t my truth. It isn’t my righteousness. It isn’t my peace. It isn’t my faith, salvation, or spirit. These are all gifts from God, entrusted to us for His purpose.
Another critical truth often overlooked is that soldiers follow orders. They don’t enter battles on their own; they move under command. Likewise, as soldiers of Christ, the armor was gifted to us the moment we were saved, but it’s our responsibility to put it on and use it daily. The battle, however, is not ours—it never was. Stop fighting battles that were never yours to begin with.
Nearly every great name in the Bible—Abraham, Moses, Isaiah, Jeremiah, the Apostles, and even Jesus—was sent on a mission. Their stories are not just about their strength but about how God used their obedience and submission to fulfill His plans.
