On This Rock

Matthew 16:18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.(ESV)

Friday, I said that we are all born as citizens of hell. That might seem provocative to some, but the truth is that we are all born into sin and if we don’t find salvation through a relationship with Jesus Christ then we will spend eternity as citizens of hell. We were all born under the dominion of sin, separated from God. Without Jesus, we remain bound to the powers of darkness. But the good news is this: Jesus came to set us free! He invaded the enemy’s territory, broke through the gates, and rescued us from death and despair.

When Jesus established His disciples, He wasn’t just creating followers—He was building His church, an unstoppable force, His Bride and His army. The gates of hell—meant to keep its captives locked away—cannot stand against the power of Christ working through His people.

Every soul won for Christ is one less citizen of hell. That’s our mission. That’s our fight. We are called to storm the gates of hell, armed with prayer, love, and the message of the Gospel. The enemy’s hold is breaking. His gates are falling. Every time we stand firm in our faith, share the gospel, pray with or for someone else, go to church, or even share simple messages like this one, the grip the enemy has on us and the world loosens just a bit.

So rise up, Church. The war has already been won, but the battle for souls rages on. Let’s march boldly in the power of Jesus, declaring His victory and rescuing those still in chains.

The gates of hell will not prevail.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
