The Torn Veil

Matthew 27:51 And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split.(ESV)

The moment that Jesus dies on the cross there is an incredible earthquake and the veil that separates the holy of holies from the rest of the world is torn from top to bottom. This veil was incredibly thick so that it couldn’t simply be cut by accident or blown aside by the wind. The veil was more important than most people realize.

Exodus 26:31 And you shall make a veil of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen. It shall be made with cherubim skillfully worked into it.(ESV)

The cherubim woven into the fabric served the same purpose as the one with the flaming sword guarding the entrance to the garden of Eden. They served the same purpose as the ones crafted into the ark of the covenant.

Exodus 37:6-9 (6)And he made a mercy seat of pure gold. Two cubits and a half was its length, and a cubit and a half its breadth. (7)And he made two cherubim of gold. He made them of hammered work on the two ends of the mercy seat, (8)one cherub on the one end, and one cherub on the other end. Of one piece with the mercy seat he made the cherubim on its two ends. (9)The cherubim spread out their wings above, overshadowing the mercy seat with their wings, with their faces one to another; toward the mercy seat were the faces of the cherubim.(ESV)

Remember that the tearing of the veil symbolized the pathway to God being opened to all. Now, remember that Jesus told His guardian in the garden of Gethsemane (Peter) to put the sword away. This tearing of the veil finalizes and reaffirms that command for all time.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
