Critical Thinking

Mark 10:18 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.”(ESV)

If you haven’t heard of the name Cliffe Knechtle, I highly encourage you to research him. I love listening to him debate about Christian theology. I recently heard him debating an atheist who claimed that the concept of good exists without proving the existence of God. For most Christians, I think the first thought is to disagree and quote any of the dozens of verses in the bible that point to God being the source of good.

What I love about Cliffe is that he does not immediately run to the bible as proof of any claims that he makes. Intellectually, this is the same thing as using Wikipedia as a source. Cliffe uses logic, reasoning, and evidence to support his claims, then he uses bible verses to say that early Christians or people of the bible believed the same way. He uses archelogy to support biblical beliefs. He compares and contrasts different belief systems around the world and throughout history.

Cliffe is also very careful to intentionally insult people for believing a certain way. He will tell them his beliefs and the reason why he believes the way he does and tell them that of the opposing views only one can truly be correct because they claim completely contradictory things.

If you want to spend some time seeing how deep the rabbit hole goes or just wanna buff up on your theological debate skills then give Cliffe a try. You don’t have to believe or agree with everything he says or claims. He will challenge you to understand why you believe the way that you do so that you can more successfully debate the points you believe in with the gentleness, grace, mercy, and love that we are called to speak with.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
