Ephesians 2:8-9 (8)For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, (9)not a result of works, so that no one may boast.(ESV)
We are saved by grace through faith unto good works. We had nothing to do with the process of salvation outside of our acceptance of the gift we have been given. Receiving this gift should prompt us to action. It should plant the seed of a desire that we won’t be able to resist.
Here’s the best part. This desire and calling is going to be unique for each of us. We will be gifted through this calling in ways that will encourage deeper growth and stronger commitment to the relationship with Christ.
One thing that all Christians should keep in mind is that without works there is no evidence of the saving change brought on by salvation. If I claim to be a Christian but can’t say that I also do things with that faith, then the faith is dead. It is not mine to judge the works of others because I do not have a complete understanding of their works. I can’t see their heart. Nor can they see mine. This isn’t to say that I can’t speak to the things I see or don’t see. I can question those things but the final judgement is for God and God alone.
I pray that when that time comes and I am charged with being a Christian that a jury of my peers would find enough evidence to convict me because, in this case, I want to be found guilty as charged.
