Learning To Fish

John 15:16
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.

“I chose you and appointed you”. Jesus spoke these words to His disciples, but they ring true for each of us today. Not one of us is here by accident. This means that we are here on purpose. God didn’t create each of us out of boredom. We were created for a reason. It should be a goal in life to find that purpose and live it out. If Jesus, the one who literally spoke the world into existence, thinks you are valuable enough to exist, you owe it to yourself to know why.

There is one other part of this verse that needs to have attention drawn to it. “Your fruit should abide”. That is to say that the fruit you produce should last. It should have more than just a temporary impact on the kingdom. I think ties well with the Chinese proverb that says, “Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime.” We are not teaching men to fish for a lifetime. We are teaching men to fish for eternity.

John 15:17
These things I command you, so that you will love one another.

If we love one another as commanded then that love becomes the fruit that abides because it is eternal.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
