Four hundred Years a Slave

Deuteronomy 8:3
And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.(ESV)

The children of Israel had just come out of more than four hundred years of enslavement. Being a slave had become a part of their identity. They would spend the next forty years wandering in the wilderness before they were allowed to enter the promised land.

From the day Abraham received the promise to the day they crossed the river Jordan, the destination never changed. The people simply weren’t ready for it.

For anyone felling like they are walking in the wilderness, remember that God will move you when He is ready for you to move. The children of Israel multiplied under the weight of oppression. They were freed physically but remained slaves mentally and spiritually. They had to walk the desert until they learned to use the resources that God was already giving them. Why would God give them the land of plenty when they couldn’t see that they already had more than enough?

Sometimes, God doesn’t move us because He needs to remove some things in our lives first. Sometimes, God doesn’t move us because He expects us to grow where we are so that we will be ready for the time when He does move us.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
