Psalm 77:11-12 (11)I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. (12)I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds.(ESV)
The biggest problem I often see when people are feeling down is that they forget all the things God has done for them. They forget their own testimony.
This seems to be a huge trick that the enemy loves to use. When we leave a church, for instance, we often forget the great things that happened there and why we loved it. When a relationship falls apart, we tend to forget that there were ever good times. When we change jobs, we often overlook the opportunities our previous job provided us.
One of the most unfortunate survival mechanisms is that we easily forget the good but carry even the smallest trauma with us for years. This tendency and the active choice to combat it are hallmarks of the Christian walk. This is why an active and robust praise life is so vital to growing as a Christian. This mindset doesn’t mean we become blind to the negative things in life; it means we don’t focus on them. Forgetting the good to focus on the bad enables the enemy to plant lies in our hearts. These weeds will eventually choke out all the fruit in our lives.
By choosing to remember God’s past deeds and maintaining a positive perspective, we strengthen our spiritual well-being. An active praise life helps us combat the enemy’s tricks and keeps us focused on the blessings and wonders God has performed. When we choose to remember the good, we allow God’s truth to flourish in our hearts, bearing fruit in our lives.
