Fishing For Ninevah

Jonah 1:17 And the Lord appointed a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.(ESV)

The book of Jonah is so short, yet there is so much to read in these few verses. Jonah ran from God’s will and spent three days in the belly of a giant fish for his efforts. The massive fish spits him out so that he has another chance to go to Ninevah, as he was originally commanded.

This is the version we are all taught in Sunday school. What they don’t tell us, the thing they usually don’t focus on, is that Ninevah, like a lot of other countries at that time, worshipped Dagon, the fish god. Imagine the people of Ninevah being told to worship God by a man who was thrown from the sea by the very thing they prayed to.

The enemy will do anything and use anything he can to get our focus away from where it needs to be. Our God will use those very things to point us back to Him. We are never truly lost. We just need to get better at reading the signs beside the roads we travel.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
