Celebrating True Freedom

Happy 4th of July! May this day be happy, healthy, and safe for all while we come together as a nation to rejoice at the freedoms we all enjoy.

My question is: How can we enjoy freedom if we are not truly free?

True freedom begins with the truth of God’s holy Word. Jesus tells us that if we hold onto His teachings, we will know the truth, and this truth will set up free. But what kind of freedom is this? It’s a freedom from the bondage of sin, guilt, and eternal separation from God. This is a much deeper and more profound freedom than any political of social liberty. We are freed from sin (Romans 6:22-23). We are freed TO serve (Galatians 5:13-14). We are freed from fear (2 Timothy 1:7). We are encouraged to truly live in this freedom (Galatians 5:1).

On this 4th of July, as we celebrate the freedoms granted to us as citizens of this great nation, let us also reflect on the greater freedom we have as citizens of the Kingdom of God. This freedom was purchased at a great cost by our Savior, Jesus Christ. It is a freedom that transforms, empowers, and calls us to live lives of love and service. Let us embrace this true freedom and live it out every day, shining the light of Christ in a world that desperately needs it.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
