Panic attacks can look very different from person to person and can have a very wide array of potential causes. Anxiety is a way of life for some people. When it flares up, it can be physically painful, mentally exhausting, and completely overwhelming. Anxiety isn’t just fear. It’s much more than that. Anxiety doesn’t even have to have elements of fear associated with it. Anxiety can control and even cripple a normally healthy and well-adjusted individual with no warning. Anxiety, unlike fear, does not even have to have a focal point to cause the experience.
Anxiety is normal. Jesus battled anxiety before going to the cross in Matthew 26:38(NIV). If Jesus experience anxiety then it isn’t a sin. Jesus answered His anxiety with prayer in Matthew 26:39(NIV).
Anxiety isn’t sin. It’s a time to pray (Matthew 26:38-39). A time to pause (Psalm 46:10). It’s a time to worship.
Why worship?
Worship is the victory song, even for battles that you didn’t know Jesus was fighting for you in the moment. We shouldn’t just praise and worship AFTER we have seen God do something in our lives. We should praise and worship Him before we are told about the victory He has already worked out.
Anxiety is a complex thing that often times requires help. Don’t be afraid to look for help in the right places. Seek professional help. Seek guidance from spiritual elders and leaders that you can trust. Never be afraid to reach out and get help. You aren’t alone.
