I would wager that more fantastical tales have started with “what if…” than have ever started with “once upon a time…”. The difference between the two is that one tells a good story while the other leaves a question unanswered. One is impersonal and often leaves the audience with a sense of what could be described a jealousy towards the characters in the story. This can lead the audience to fantasize about being a part of the story, which can leave them wishing for a different life that is out of reach thus planting the seeds of future disappointment. “What if”, in the other hand, gives the audience purpose and permission to seek out the answer to that question for themselves. It encourages the audience to grow, to try new things, to do or be different. “What if” inspires a sense of wonder and sparks excitement while empowering the audience to make that small difference that this world needs so badly right now.
What if…
What if I let that person in front of me in traffic?
What if I stopped to help a stranger?
What if I opened up to a friend about a problem I’m having?
What if I said “I’m sorry” instead of blaming another for my behavior?
What if I truly believed what the word of God said?
What if I acted out the things I read in the bible?
Transformation of Mind and Heart
Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Ezekiel 36:26-27 (26)And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. (27)And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.(ESV)
Living by Faith
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.(ESV)
2 Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.(ESV)
Experiencing Peace
Philippians 4:6-7 (6)Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (7)And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.(ESV)
Bearing Fruit
John 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.(ESV)
Galatians 5:22-23 (22)But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, (23)gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.(ESV)
Overcoming Fear and Finding Strength
2 Timothy 1:7 For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.(ESV)
Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.(ESV)
Understanding Purpose and Calling

Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.(ESV)
Walking in Love and Forgiveness
1 John 4:7-8 (7)Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. (8)Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.(ESV)
Colossians 3:13 Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.(ESV)
Living with Eternal Perspective
2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (17)For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, (18)as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.(ESV)
Spreading the Gospel
Matthew 28:19-20 (19)Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (20)teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.(ESV)
The path is open before you. What if you followed it?
