Time Keeps On Slipping

Psalm 102:11 My days are like an evening shadow; I wither away like grass.(ESV)

This verse reminds us that our days are fleeting. This brevity begs the question: If you had only 24 hours to impact the next 50 years of your life, what would you prioritize? This urgency is just a glimpse of the preparation we should undertake for our eternal future beyond our earthly existence.

Imagine that every choice we make, every deed we perform, doesn’t just ripple through our lifetime but extends into eternity. As Christians, our eternal judgment isn’t about condemnation but about refining—where our earthly actions are tested for their eternal value (1 Corinthians 3:12-15). It’s about building a legacy that lasts beyond time, where moths and rust cannot corrupt (Matthew 6:19-21).

1 Corinthians 3:12-15 (12)Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— (13)each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. (14)If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. (15)If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.(ESV)

Matthew 6:19-21 (19)Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, (20)but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. (21)For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.(ESV)

What does this mean for us today? It means living each day with an awareness that our actions have eternal consequences. It means choosing generosity over greed, kindness over callousness, and faith over fear. These choices weave a tapestry of spiritual treasures that moth and rust cannot destroy.

As we ‘lay up treasures in heaven,’ our focus shifts from temporal gains to eternal rewards so that we live not in fear of the time running out but in joyous anticipation of the celebration to come. Each day is an opportunity to add gold, silver, and precious stones to our eternal foundation—a celebration of what we have become through Christ.

Remember, the way we live today shapes our eternal tomorrow. Let’s ensure that our eternal home is one of richness in love, joy, and peace, reflecting the true treasures of a life well-lived in service to God and others.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
