Matthew 11:28-30 (28)Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (29)Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (30)For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.(ESV)
One minute, your cup is full to overflowing, the next, you are looking at the pieces of the cup. It’s amazing how fast everything can change. It’s also amazing how many close calls we have without ever paying attention. We are not promised tomorrow. Yesterday is no more. Right now might the the only chance we ever get to do the right thing.
What do we do when things do change suddenly and without warning?
Proverbs 3:5-6 (5)Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. (6)In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.(ESV)
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.(ESV)
Trusting in the Lord does not make the path perpetually easy. It does not remove all obstacles or pitfalls. It doesn’t mean that we won’t get tired. It does, however, give us a supernatural peace. This kind of peace allows us to sleep in the lions den. It allows us to enjoy the bounty at the table set before our enemies. This kind of peace repairs the broken cup or gives us a new one.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.(ESV)
