John 6:51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.(ESV)
John 6:35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.(ESV)
2 Corinthians 2:15-16 (15)For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, (16)to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things?(ESV)
Few smells excite me like the smell of fresh baked bread. I love to smell bread in the over, but even more when we first cut into that new loaf. The smell fills the whole house. Second best would be the smell of toasted bread.
There are a lot of bread references in the bible. Even Bethlehem is translated as House of Bread from Hebrew. This means that Jesus was the bun in Mary’s oven and He popped out into the House of Bread. He asks us to invite Him into our hearts so that He (the bread of life) may fill us up. When we are full of the bread of life then we become the aroma of Christ to the Father. The bread of life was broken open for us and as such the aroma completely fills us from the inside out if we let it.
Earthy bread cools off and loses the smell after a while. The bread of life is always hot and fresh. The aroma always fill whatever space it finds. If we are full of the bread of life, when we get broken open then the aroma of that bread will fill whatever space we find ourselves broken in.
Now I’m hungry…
