Genesis 2:7 then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.(ESV)
2 Thessalonians 2:8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming.(ESV)
Both of these verses use the word breath. Some people believe that Jesus will kill with this breath which would obviously mean that God has the power to create and destroy with the same breath. This may not mean what most people would think it means.
Follow me here, Jesus breathed the breath of life into Adam. This breath wasn’t just oxygen. This was the very essence of what life is or divine essence. The enemy is the antithesis of life. The enemy stands opposed to the very essence of God, which is life itself. It seems to me that the same breath that brought life to Adam, and through Adam, us, would destroy anything opposed to that life.
It’s not that Jesus will destroy the enemy. It’s that the enemy simply won’t be able to exist in the face of absolute truth. In the presence of pure light, no darkness can exist. In the presence of pure life there can be no death or decay.
