Fear is a Liar

Proverbs 3:5-6 (5)Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. (6)In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.(ESV)

This might be one of the most well known of the proverbs. I hear it almost weekly. Say it another way: Trust God not yourself. If everything you are points to Him then your path will be straight. This entire verse is about faith. How many times have each of us said we have faith but….. We worry about bills, medical problems, relationship problems, and every other thing that life loves to throw at us. We have faith but we also have fear.

Fear is the opposite of faith. They both want the same thing. Fear and faith both ask you to believe in something that hasn’t happened yet. These two cancel each other out. They cannot coexist. The choice between the two is up to us.

This is where the second part comes in. Lean not on your own understanding. This means that we don’t have to know or understand what is going on to get started doing what we are told to do. Push the fear aside and choose faith. When you have submitted to the Lord fully then and only then will your path be made straight. Keep in mind that God does not care about our obedience, which is action, He cares about our submission, which is attitude. We can be obstinately obedient and not submit.

Fear is a liar. Faith is a choice. Submission is an attitude. When you choose faith and adjust your attitude accordingly then truth takes control, fear has no power, and it becomes possible to completely trust in the overwhelming power of His promises.

This lesson has the power to change every part of life. Choose faith. Have faith. Speak faith. Live faith.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
