A Still Small Voice

In 1 Kings 19 we read about Elijah when he was hiding in a cave after running from Jezebel. The Lord asked Elijah what he was doing there. Elijah said he was hiding. A series of incredible feats of nature followed. A strong wind that broke parts of the mountain was followed by an earthquake then a fire. The Lord was not in any of those things.

1 Kings 19:12 And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.(ESV)

That still, small voice. God doesn’t need to shout to get out attention.

Think of it this way. While listening to the radio we have to tune the receiver to hear the channel we want to hear. If we have the receiver perfectly tuned then we will hear the channel we want while we are in the coverage area. The enemy knows that the best way to help us get lost is to make sure we can’t hear that voice. His plan is simple. Make the other stations surrounding the one was want to hear louder that that quiet whisper.

If we are where God wants us and have tuned our receiver to the right station then it doesn’t matter how loudly the enemy screams, we will hear His voice. If that voice tells you to move then move. If you can’t hear that voice then check your receiver and wait patiently. He is still there. He just hasn’t changed the instructions He gave you before.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
