Communion

Matthew 26:27-28 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, (28)for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.(ESV)

John 14:2-3 (2)In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? (3)And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.(ESV)

In Jewish tradition, when a young man wanted a wife he negotiate the bride price then he would sit her down in front of her whole family with a cup of wine. He would tell her that this was his covenant to her if she would drink it. If she accepted his covenant and drank the wine that is basically the same as saying “I do” today.

After she drank from the cup, he would go back to his father’s house and begin to build a new room for them. They were not allowed to see each other until the wedding day. Communications had to be handled through the grooms best man. The young man would toil to build this new room for his bride until his father stopped him and said that room was done and it was time to go get his bride. The new groom would gather his best men and wedding party, blow horns and start the march to go get his bride.

When Christ sat the disciples down for what became known as the last supper, He asked them each to drink from His cup saying that this was His covenant and that He was going to go prepare a place for them. He then said that He would send His helper, the Holy Spirit, to communicate with us while He was gone.

Communion is not just remembrance of Christ. It is also a reminder that we were bought with a bride price. We have been paid for by His blood. We are the bride of Christ. He will return one day when the Father says that it is time for Christ to go get his bride.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
