You Are God’s Field

1 Corinthians 3:8-9 (8)He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. (9)For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building.(ESV)

The city decided to plant a bunch of trees along a few unsightly sections of road. A young man watched them work each day as it was on his way to school. The first worker would dig the hole. The second would put the tree in the hole. The third would fill in the hole. This went on tree after tree. The project was large so it was expected to take several weeks to complete. One day the young man noticed a change in their pattern. The first worker dug the hole as always. The second worker then filled in the hole. After watching this a couple of times, the young man got curious and stopped to ask them what they were doing. The first worker paused for a second before telling him that they were planting trees. “No, you’re digging a hole only to have him fill that hole in a few minutes later.” The worker looked at the young guy for a minute trying to figure out if the kid was messing with him. “That’s Roger’s job.”

This obviously confused the young guy even more so he asked which one was Roger.

“Oh, Roger? He’s not here. He’s on vacation. That doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t work though.”

We each have a job to do on this earth. We are sent here for His purpose. It doesn’t matter whether the person next to us is doing their job or not. We still have our own work to do. We will each be judged by how well we do our own work. We won’t be judged by the work of our fathers or mothers. We won’t be judged by the work of our children. We will be judged by whether we did the work with the right heart, one that works for the love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
