Stir One Another Up

Hebrews 10:24-25 (24)And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, (25)not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.(ESV)

These verses bring to mind so many bunny trails that it’s hard to pick the best one. What does it mean to stir up? What is love (baby, don’t hurt me)? Iron sharpens iron. How do we encourage each other? I would guess that the key word here is “consider”. Think about how to do these things. Ponder these questions. Ask others for their thoughts on these things then share your own. Let this pursuit become a major portion of your life. Pursue these things. Let this become who you are.

My dad challenged me when I was fairly young to pursue knowledge simply for the sake of knowledge. The bible challenges us to pursue love and encouragement much the same way. Knowledge can be painful to learn. Love can be painful to give. Still, both are worthy pursuits when the goal isn’t simply personal gain. Knowledge and love must both be freely given and for the same reason. If they are not freely given they become a commodity which then becomes an idol and possession of either then becomes a curse.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
