Teach a Man to Fish

James 1:5  If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.(ESV)

A lot of people want to treat this verse as a magic 8-ball.  Ask a question and get a simple answer.  There are times when that is exactly what happens.  However, that doesn’t build up the relationship between us and God.

“Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.  Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime.”

Asking for wisdom often comes with a lesson to learn that will ultimately lead to the wisdom that is sought after.  Being taught to think more like Jesus shapes our minds in such a way that the light of truth, through the Holy Spirit, will reveal the answer to the original question.  Patience comes from being tested.  Peace comes through adversity.  What you seek can change the path, but not the destination.  If you lack wisdom, patience, or peace, it’s because you have not asked for it.  You do not have, because you do not ask (James 4:2).  Seek and you shall find.  Ask and it will be given to you (Matthew 7:7).  You may or may not be given an immediate answer to the question, but you will be given the opportunity to learn the right way to see the answer for yourself.

Who am I?

I’ve walked a path I didn’t ask for, guided by a God I can’t ignore. I don’t wear titles well—writer, teacher, leader—they fit like borrowed armor. But I know this: I’ve bled truth onto a page, challenged what I was told to swallow, and led only because I refused to follow where I couldn’t see Christ.

I don’t see greatness in the mirror. I see someone ordinary, shaped by pain and made resilient through it. I’m not above anyone. I’m not below anyone. I’m just trying to live what I believe and document the war inside so others know they aren’t alone.

If you’re looking for polished answers, you won’t find them here.
But if you’re looking for honesty, tension, paradox, and a relentless pursuit of truth,
you’re in the right place.

If you’re unsure of what path to follow or disillusioned with the world today and are willing to walk with me along this path I follow, you’ll never be alone. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable with.

Now, welcome home. I’m Don.
